Once upon a time a company called Elipson produced a pair of highly sought after speakers called the BS50 Chambord speakers. Well, time continued it’s sad little dance as it always does and said speakers were discontinued. Flash forward several years and the company has brought them back, just in time for the holiday season.
These are dome speakers and domes are 50 cm in width, and are open to reflectors of sound emancipating from the audio device below. The set allows for rearrangement of the top pieces so you can control how you like music to sound. They weigh about 30 kiles each and it must be noted they look and sound absolutely fantastic. We are talking the highest of the hi-def here.
Delivery of these speakers commences in October, straight from the factory to your home. Each set will cost just $5875. Not bad, right?
The only problem with Apple gear is that it’s sometimes hard to find non-Apple made peripherals that maximize the potential of your devices. Well, when it comes to sound, consider that a problem of the past. JVC has worked up quite the solution indeed.
These audio docking stations are perfect for any laptops, desktops, iPads, iPhones or any other iOS devices you have laying around. They don’t support the Newton though, sorry. Seriously though they are both handy and dandy.T he central unit consists of the docking slot with 2 adjoining speakers, which allows said connections. There are multiple slots though, so get ready for having more than one gadget usable at once. This is a novel, and rare, concept.
As expected, these are not for the faint of heart. These JVC docking stations cost around $369.
True audiophiles are always looking for the latest, greatest thing, the new invention that will finally make music sound “real.” Well, look no further than concrete. Wait, concrete?!
Yes, concrete. Israeli designer Shmuel Linski has fashioned this pair of concrete speakers, which take audiophile-dom to a whole new level. Concrete has never been known for it’s aural properties, but the designer has fixed this problem by making sure the driver and port are linked together. The whole thing is not lined with any sound absorbent material, being as how the concrete is enough. The end of result? A surprisingly fine sounding pair of speakers that is sure to be a hot topic of conversation at your next dinner party.
The price hasn’t been announced yet. Rest assured, though, if they are half as expensive as they are heavy then your bank account is in for a treat. They weigh 56kg a pair.
Steinway may be best known for their magnificent pianos and other instruments, that doesn’t mean the company doesn’t make a mean speaker set. Their new S-Series speakers are quite astounding, offering up a new dimension of sound.
Wait, what’s that? A new dimension? Surely the sound doesn’t travel from an parallel universe right? Ok, you got me there. They are compact and quite nice, though. The two varieties in the S-series include the S-15 & S-210. The S-15 is a two-way speaker with a frequency response between 120 Hz – 22 kHz and peak power capacity of 600 W of sound along with a single channel amplifier needed for optimum effects. Due to its compact size of 10.2 inches in length, 7.8 inches in width and a depth of 3.1 inches, it can be placed perfectly well on a bookshelf, fixed on the wall or even made to stand on the floor with appropriate support. On the other hand, the S-210 is a one-way boundary woofer with a frequency response of 25-500 Hz and has the peak power capacity of 800 W of sound.
The pricing ranges between around $22,000 and $45,000 depending on what version you want and what knickknacks you want applied to the final purchase. Just imagine these bad boys sitting atop your bookshelf, filling your entire home with sweet, wondrous music. Ah, the plentiful bounties of hearth and home.
