The hornspeakers “fad” continue to sweep through the audiophile world. I put fad in quotes, because those that have experienced these firsthand know they are anything but. Hornspeakers have come a long way since the 70s and 80s when they were overpriced and tinny. Now they are just overpriced.
These La Grand Castine Hornspeakers cost a whopping $100,000 but to the audiophile with cash to burn, they are worth every penny. The unit delivers sound in the 108db range and all three horns are time aligned, which means the sweetspot is huge. You’ll have to work hard to find a place in your living room where these don’t sound amazing. They measure 2m x 92cm x 1.20m in size and weigh in at a hefty 130kg. The La Grande Castine need only a 3 watt amplifier to reach high acoustic levels. If you have 100 grand burning a hole in your bank account, this may be the speakers you are looking for.
